About Us Richard Higgins Founder Over the past 30 years House of Automation has specialized in the design and installation of custom perimeter security systems. Richard Higgins a native of San Diego our founder has been one of the pillars of the gate automation industry for over 40 years, he himself formed other companies which led to the development of the modern day solid state control system. In 1971 Richard helped develop the original solid state control board model 1070 and continued to perfect the mechanical related systems that it controlled. Richard has a colorful background which led to our success, he attended California western university, he owned and operated Charles Aviation and was involved with flight training and maintenance, he was a commercial airline pilot working for Bonanza and Pacific Southwest Airlines, he along with others established Automation General another successful access control firm.
